HYDERABAD: Kerala Tourism is back again with road shows to promote its new initiatives to attract more visitors from the State.

A 33-member team from travel and tourism and hospitality industry came to the city to interact with their counterparts here, said Director, Kerala Tourism, M. Sivasankar on Tuesday.

Earlier inaugurating the road show, Principal Secretary, State Tourism, Lakshmi Parthasarathy, extended an invitation to house boat owners’ association of Kerala to set up similar ventures in Jalayagnam projects in AP that are being promoted as tourist spots.

Various packages

Later giving details about Kerala’s new initiatives, Mr. Sivasankar said that ‘Dream Season’ was one such package targeted at domestic holiday makers during the traditional off-season, April to October at attractive rates.

The other important events are ‘Kerala Travel Mart-2008’ starting at Kochi from September 20 to 23 for bringing together the business fraternity and entrepreneurs behind tourism products and services and ‘Grand Kerala Shopping Festival’, to be held from December 1 to January 15, 2009. Volvo Ocean Race, world’s premier offshore yacht race starting from Europe will stop over at Kochi in December for the first time in Asia. ‘Wake up Malabar’ is another campaign to promote diverse attractions in the northern part of Kerala, he said.

Kerala is also focusing on responsible tourism by involving local communities and stakeholders for sustainable development and standardised facilities at its home stays and houseboats. Last year, Kerala registered 66 lakh domestic arrivals, 5.15 lakh foreign tourists and earned a revenue of Rs.11,400 crore from tourism.
