Vikram Malhotra makes it to fourth round

CHENNAI: Vikram Malhotra cruised into the fourth round after an impressive straight-game victory over Joshua Larkin of Australia. Vikram had earlier got the better of Fahad B. Al-Ramezy of Kuwait as the World junior men’s squash championship, being held in Zurich, entered the round of 32 on Monday.

Vikram’s next opponent is Petrucci Camille from France, a plucky player who had earlier in the day ousted a seeded player in the third round.

Matching Vikram was Aditya Jagtap, who had to dig deep to overcome a determined Frederick Reid from Canada. Reid used the volleys and drops judiciously in a bid to unsettle the lanky Indian.

Karan Malik fell in the second round to Jo Lee of England. Though he lost it must be said the Indian put up a brave fight. Abhishek Pradhan also put up a good performance, leading by two games and being on match ball.

The results (involving Indians):

Third round: Aditya Jagtap bt Frederick Reid (Can) 9-0, 9-4, 7-9, 10-8; Vikram Malhotra bt Joshua Larkin (Aus) 9-4, 9-3, 9-6; Wael Farag (Egy) bt Ravi Dixit 9-3, 9-2, 9-6; Chun Ming Leo Au (Hkg) bt Paramit Singh 9-0, 9-1, 9-6; Keagan Burkhart (Nzl) bt Mahesh Mangaonkar 10-8, 9-4, 9-6.
