IT industry sensitised to terror threat

Surveillance cameras to be installed in 50 more points Meeting of browsing centre owners today
CHENNAI: Additional Director-General of Police and Commissioner R. Sekar met representatives of the Information Technology industry, shopping malls and movie halls here on Tuesday to sensitise them to the prevailing threat situation and the precautionary measures to be taken.
While explaining the dos and don’ts from the security point of view, he said private security supervisors should be in possession of telephone numbers of police officers and hospitals to manage emergency situations. There should be no compromise on security arrangements, he said.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Sekar said surveillance cameras would be installed in 50 more points in the city. Instructions were given to mobile phone operators to ensure that SIM cards were not activated to any person without ascertaining the authenticity of his/her address.
The police had written to all heads of educational institutions to have caller identification facility attached to their landline phones. A meeting of browsing centre owners would be convened on Wednesday to brief them on the need to keep a record of those visiting their centres and to alert the police in case they found the behaviour of any visitor suspicious.
