Laser National sailing from August 3

HYDERABAD: The Laser National sailing championships will be held during the Hyderabad Sailing Week from August 3 to 9. About 100 sailors are expected to take part in the Laser Standard, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7 classes for men, women and children aged between 12 and 64 years.

Among them will be two-time Asian Games bronze medallist and Laser Standard defending champion Rajesh Choudhary, Laser Radial title holder B.K. Rout and other seasoned sailors such as Dharmender Singh, Jasveer Singh, Parvinder Singh and Xerxes Bamboat.

Leading clubs and teams such as Army Yachting Node (AYN) Mumbai, Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC) squads from Mumbai, Kochi and Visakhapatnam, Tamil Nadu Sailing Association, Royal Madras Yacht Club, Royal Bombay Yacht Club, National Sailing School Bhopal, Secunderabad Sailing Club, Corps of Engineers Sailing Club, NDA Sailing Club and Goa Yachting Association will be in the fray.

The six-day, 30-race event will be jointly hosted by the EME Sailing Association and the Secunderabad Club, under the aegis of the Laser Class Association of India and conducted by Arjuna Awardee, international judge and umpire C.S. Pradipak, national judges Ajay Balram, K.S. Saini and Lt. Col. R.S. Dhillon and Principal Race Officer Lt. Col. (Retd.) M.P. Jaggi. — Special Correspondent
