Mohammedan Sporting on top
KOLKATA: An own goal in the injury-time saw defending champion Mohun Bagan going down to Mohammedan Sporting 1-2 in a premier division match of the Calcutta Football League here at the Salt Lake Stadium on Monday.
The result helped Sporting tally 12 points from five matches and gain the top spot in the league table edging Bagan, which remained on 10 points.
Sporting rode a fine start and earned an early lead when its Liberian striker Theodore Wrobeh scored from a 22nd-minute penalty.
Bagan restored parity through striker P. Lalawmpuia in the 54th minute.
The match seemed to be heading for a draw but an own goal from Bagan defender Mohan Raj in the injury-time ensured full points in favour of Sporting. — Principal Correspondent
