ITRC defeats Reserve Line Sports Club

Madurai: Income Tax Recreation Club, Chennai defeated host Reserve Line Sports Club 2-1 in the inaugural match of the 16th annual Rajamani-Kanakamaniammal memorial Trophy State-level hockey tournament at the Police Centenary stadium here on Monday.

All the goals came in the second half. Within a minute after resumption Rajasekaran gave ITRC the lead off a cross from Michael from the right and Michael enhanced the lead in the 38th minute when he scored off a fine pass form Rajasekaran.

Venkatesh reduced the margin in the 60th minute off a cross from Rajagopal.

The results: Income Tax RC, Chennai 2 (Rajasekaran, Michael) bt Reserve Line SC 1 (Venkatesh).

South Zone Police, Madurai 5 (Deivendran 2, Kannan, Murugan, Soundara Pandian) bt Jothi SC, Palayamkottai 3 (Chinadurai, Franklin, Karthik) via tie-breaker; end of regulation time 1-1.

Ramanathapuram DHA 4 (Rajesh, Muthukumar 2, Kalai Selvan) bt Jamal Mohamed College, Tiruchi 3 (Manivanan 2, Ahmed) via sudden death, full time 1-1, tie-breaker 1-1.

Oxford CC posts win

Parthiban’s 96 and a five-wicket haul by Rafique (five for 38) helped Oxford Cricket Club, Usilampatti chalk out a 79-run victory over Supersonic Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-MDCA first division ‘B’ zone league at Madurai on Sunday.

The scores (first division ‘B’ zone): Oxford CC 267 for nine in 46 overs (Parthiban 96, Azis 40, Sathish Kumar four for 35) bt Supersonic CC 188 in 39 overs (Shanmugam 40, Rajesh 42, Rafique five for 38).

KKRC CC 76 in 29.2 overs (Balamurugan four for 9, Seeni four for 13) lost to Eleven Bullets CC 77 for one in 11.3 overs (Surya Prakash 44 not out).

Zone ‘A’: Mercury CC 158 in 43.2 overs (Abrar Essa 41, Jeyasingh four for 14) lost to Customs CC 159 for seven in 44.4 overs (Thirupathy 56 not out).

Second division: Superkast CC 165 in 27 overs lost to Stalwarts CC 168 for eight in 29.3 overs (Balaji 50, Manikandan 40).

Third division: DDK CC 158 for eight in 30 overs (Murugesan 48, Balasubramanian four for 26) bt MC HSS 143 in 30 overs.

SS Cricket Club 196 for five in 30 overs (Kamatchi Pandian 50 not out, Vinal 50 not out) bt MC HSS 159 in 29 overs (Manimaran 43, Prasad 40).

Sourashtra College keeps title

Sourashtra College, Madurai retained the badminton title defeating Vellachamy Nadar College 3-0 in the final in the Kamaraj University ‘B’ zone inter-colligate badminton tournament at Madurai on Saturday.

The results: Sourashtra College bt Vellachamy Nadar College 3-0 (Bharath Arun bt Karthik 21-11, 21-9; Prasanna bt Sriram 21-17, 21-17; Bharath Arun & Prasanna bt Karthik & Sriram 21-12, 21-18).

Xavier MHSS wins

Xavier Matriculation HSS beat Seventh Day Adventist MHSS 25-23, 25-11 in the inaugural match of the Joseph memorial cup district-level inter-school volleyball tournament at Madurai on Monday.

Other results (first round): Tagore Vidyalaya MHSS bt Idayam Rajendran Residential School 25-13, 25-12; St. Mary of Leuca bt MAVMM HSS 25-12, 24-8.

CEOA MHSS bt APT Dinairaj Nadar HSS 25-15, 25-16.

KLN CE 139 for eight in 25 overs bt Vikram CE, Sivagangai 78 in 18.3 overs.

Syed Ammal EC, Ramanathapuram 129 for nine in 25 overs (Karthikeyan four for 20) lost to Sudharsan CE, Pudukottai 130 for seven in 24.3 overs.
