Ecumenical meeting in Pathanamthitta

Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: Ecumenism aims at a harmonious co-existence of different churches, Philipose Mar Chrysostum, senior Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, has said.

Mar Chrysostum was inaugurating a meeting of the Christian Ecumenical Association at Pathanamthitta Mar Thoma Church in the town on Sunday afternoon.

Shed differences

He said it was of prime importance that churches shed their differences and function cordially if they wanted to experience ecumenism in its essential spirit.

Mar Chrysostum said the Christian mission of ecumenism reaches its goal by extending a helping hand to the distressed, under-privileged and poorer sections of society.

The senior Metropolitan also called upon the churches to strive cohesively for the welfare of society as a whole, taking it as the essential spirit of ecumenism and Christian mission.

Fr. C.G. Thomas, Christian Ecumenical Association president, presided over the function. Fr. Abraham Vavolimeppurathu, District Vicar of Malankara Catholic Church; Fr. James E. Mathew, CEA vice-president; Anil Thomas, general secretary; and K.K. Cherianji, treasurer, also spoke.
