Loaded with enthusiasm, they win the hearts of all

VIJAYAWADA: When the students of Maris Stella College, who arrived to take part in the talent search programme organised by Sumadhura Kala Niketan at Thummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram on Saturday, decided to practice their songs, they chose the right place to fine tune their vocal chords - beneath the feet of legendary musician Ghatasala at his statue.

Over 60 girls and boys, blessed with skills of singing, dancing and acting, came with loads of enthusiasm to demonstrate their talent in front of a four-member jury and a motley audience.

“We’re conducting competitions in light music, folk dance, mono action and skits to promote the latent talent in the youth. We’re providing a platform to enable them to overcome stage fear and hiccups while performing before a large audience. This is the fourth year and the response is encouraging,” said H.V.R.S. Prasad, a founder member of Sumadhura Kala Niketan.

He said the best performers identified through this exercise would be given the required support to nurture their talent. The talent search programme began with Soumya, a student of K.V.R. Hindi Vidyalaya, rendering “Nannu Kalavarintha...”, a light music song, followed by Kumari of the same college crooning the folk song “Vaadu Kattamedha...”

Though most of the singers lacked rhythm and knowledge of ‘swara’ and ‘laya’, they earned kudos for boldly come forward to render without any inhibition. Dancers Haritha (Chaitanya College), Reshma and Priyanka (both from P.B. Siddhartha College) won a good round of applause for their folk dance movements, along with Ch. Satyanarayana of SAS College who performed mono action.
