TIRUCHI: ‘Makkal nala paniyalargal’ and panchayat assistants should play an important role in the implementation of government’s welfare and development schemes, Collector T. Soundiah has said. Speaking at a review meeting with ‘makkal nala paniyalargal’ and panchayat assistants from the 408 village panchayats in the district here on Friday, Mr.Soundiah said that the two categories of employees should serve as a bridge between the people and the government. Almost in every panchayat, about Rs.1 crore worth of development works were being executed. The employees should closely monitor the implementation of the development schemes. They should also publicise the government welfare programmes. He also urged them to ensure quality in the execution of the works sanctioned under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam. The Project Officer of the District Development Agency, J. Dhanasekaran, was present.
