Darshini enters quarterfinals

Sivakasi: S. Darshini of Virudhunagar entered the girls U-19 singles quarterfinals defeating S. Nirmala of Tiruchi 21-3, 21-3 in the Tamil Nadu junior State-ranking badminton tournament organised by the Virudhunagar District Badminton Association at the A.J. Stadium, Sivakasi on Friday.

ANJC retains title

Host Ayya Nadar Janakiammal College retained the title defeating VHNSN College (Virudhunagar) 3-0 in the Madurai Kamaraj University ‘D’ zone inter-collegiate table tennis tournament at Sivakasi on Friday.

AJ College (Sivakasi) bt VHNSN College (Virudhunagar) 3-0 (Gopalakrishnan bt Rajesh 11-7, 11-4, 11-7; Narayanan bt Amudhan 11-9, 7-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-9; Rajaguru bt Selvamurugesan 11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9).

Ganesh triumphs

S. Ganesh Babu of Thiagarajar College won the men’s title and clinched the Sourashtra College Silver Jubilee year Trophy with eight points out of possible nine, while A. Sithalakshmi of Lady Doak College won the women’s title with eight points and lifted the Aruppukottai Punnaivanam Saraswathy Trophy, in the Madurai Kamaraj University inter-collegiate chess tournament at Madurai on Friday.

Final placings:

Men: 1. S. Ganesh Babu 8/9; 2. J. Karthikeyan (Subramanya College, Palani) 7.5; 3. M. Mohamed Fakkruddin (Madura College) 7; 4. M. Karthick (VHNSN College) 7; 5. I. Bala Murugan (ANJA College) 7.

Women: 1. A. Sithalakshmi (LDC) 8; 2. H. Lavanya (LDC) 6; 3. R. Saranya (EMG. Yadava Womens College) 5.5.

Dindigul dist. athletics

The Dindigul district athletics meet for men and college and school students will be held at the District stadium, Dindigul on July 29.

Entries close on July 27.

Concord CC wins

At Puducherry, Concord CC emerged victorious in the Puducherry region first division of the Canara Bank PCA league championship for the 2007-08 season. MSK Memorial CC finished second.

In the second division, Kargil CC triumphed while Sportive CC finished runner-up. Defeater CC took the honours in the third division with Universal CC finishing second.

The fourth division was won by Sun CC, with Independence CC in second place.

In Karaikal Region, Netaji Cricket Academy CC came up trumps while Karaikal Sports Academy CC finished runner-up.
