Another weightlifting doping controversy
NEW DELHI: Indian weightlifting got into another dope controversy on Thursday with Punjab lifter Harpreet Singh (85 kg) being named as the latest dope offender.
Harpreet, now training at the Army Sports Institute in Pune for the Commonwealth Youth Games, has returned positive for nandrolone in a test conducted by the Sports Authority of India, a PTI report said.
The Indian Weightlifting Federation, however, said it would take appropriate action after getting a written communication in this regard.
“We have not received any letter as yet.
“After getting the letter and knowing the details, we will take action based on the process in place,” IWF General Secretary B.R. Gulati said.
“We will see whether the offence invites a ban.
“The guilty will be punished and it does not matter whether the athlete is caught at international or domestic level,” he said. — Sports Reporter
