Madikeri: The committee on creation of new taluks in Kodagu headed by Deputy Commissioner K.R. Niranjan on Thursday decided to send a proposal to the State Government, demanding creation of Ponnampet and Kushalnagar taluks. Mr. Niranjan constituted a sub-committee to be headed by Assistant Commissioner Akram Pasha to prepare the plans and the maps, and collate information on the population, number of villages and so on. The sub-committee is required to submit its report by July 28. The deputy secretary of the zilla panchayat, Joint Director of the Agriculture Department, executive engineers of the Public Works Department and Panchayat Raj Engineering Division, tahsildars of three taluks and executive officers of the three taluk panchayats would be the members of the committee, a press release said here. The committee had elicited the opinion of various organisations, elected representatives and the public here on May 27 on the creation of Ponnampet and Kushalnagar taluks.
