Canon opens Image Lounge

BANGALORE: Canon India’s President and CEO Kensaku Konishi told reporters here on Thursday that the 38 per cent business growth in 2007 was the highest since it began operations here in 1997 and resulted in a Rs. 510 crore turnover.

In digital copier category, it acquired a 25 per cent market share, a leadership position according to IDC, Mr. Konishi added.

Mr. Konishi and Canon India Vice-President, Alok Bhardwaj, inaugurated the Canon Image Lounge here, the first in the South and second in India after Delhi.

The company also opened its Pro Centre at National Institute of Creative Communication, Bangalore, to help photography professionals learn advanced digital photography techniques. The Lounge will display and demonstrate the entire range of products marketed in the region.

“India is one of our largest markets in Asia and is the second in volume sales for cameras and third in copiers,” he said.

Mr. Bharadwaj said, in India, Canon’s laser printer sales grew 180 per cent last year, compared to the industry average of 20 per cent, ink jet printers grew 64 per cent (10 per cent industry average) and colour copiers by 115 per cent (65 per cent), adding to overall business growth.
