Varadarajan’s Re(a)el Estate
S.R.Ashok Kumar
CHENNAI: The Tamil theatre has a new addition in ‘Re(a)el Estate,’ a play written and directed by ‘Vedham Puthithu’ Kannan.
The play deals with the aspirations of the middle class to own a house.
It also explains in detail the nuances of the words commonly used in real estate transaction – namely, sq.ft., patta, parent document, layout, plans, approved and unapproved.
How one needs to be cautious in the exercise has been told in a humorous manner.
The play is produced and dramatised by actor T.V. Varadarajan. He says the story looks at a typical middle class couple.
“Boomi (Husband name) and Patta (Wife’s name) – these are the two main names appear in any real estate transactions. Boomi and Patta are inseparable and so is this couple. They plan to construct a house,” Mr. Varadarajan narrates the story. T.V.Varadarajan says that “Re(a)el Estate” is different play.
“This drama could be called a remake of our play ‘Ilavasa Enaippu’ staged in 1996.
The script has been redone to suit the present day scenario,” he adds.
