Chennai: The makeshift stalls put up by hawkers on NSC Bose Road were cleared by the Chennai Corporation on Wednesday.

The Corporation had issued a notice to the hawkers asking them to shift to the alternative space allotted for them in Esplanade. Monday was the deadline to vacate. Some hawkers had moved but others remained on the busy road as it meant more business for them. Also, more hawkers had occupied the roadsides and pavements in the spots vacated by those who had moved.

Corporation officials said the stalls put up by hawkers were removed because they hampered movement of road-users.
