VIJAYAWADA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) party plans to lay a siege to the Sub-Collector’s office for 36 hours continuously on August 13, in a novel agitation. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, CPI (M) city secretary R. Raghu and party State executive member and floor leader in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Ch. Babu Rao said that the party would be launching an intensive campaign to mobilise the citizens to bring pressure on the Government and the civic administration to resolve the problems of the people. Mr Raghu said the people were being subjected to tremendous inconvenience because of a gradual deterioration in administration. An intensive campaign to elicit problems from the public and then resolve them through agitation would be launched on July 25 and concluded on August 10. On August 13, the Sub-Collector’s office would be picketed. PadayatrasPadayatras taken out by the leaders and activists would cover all 59 municipal divisions and three Assembly Constituencies in the city. Meetings would be conducted to know about the problems of people wherever there was a gathering and the activists would also go door to door to elicit the grievances of independent households, Mr. Babu Rao said. The departmental offices concerned would also be picketed to highlight the grievances of the people concerned. The leaders and activists who participate in the padayatra would camp overnight in the divisions to interact with the citizens and learn first hand the civic and other problems they were facing, he said. Mr. Babu Rao said that the CPI (M) had launched several agitations over the last few years to highlight the various issues, but all the problems of the public would be consolidated at the end of this campaign and dharnas would be staged in front of all the offices of departments concerned. Distribution of house sites, pucca housing, house site pattas and registration of pattas along with ration cards and pensions to all eligible persons were some of the issues that would be highlighted.
