Counselling will continue till July 29 Special cell opened to verify sports certificates VIJAYAWADA: Counselling for admissions into MBBS and BDS courses in the State commenced simultaneously at five different centres across the State on Wednesday. In all, 962 seats were filled in 13 government medical colleges and the last rank allotted was 999 on the first day. Besides Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences here, counselling was held at two centres in Hyderabad and one each in Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. At the University, the counselling began with the allotment of seats to Sri Harshavardhan Surya and Katragadda Pavan Kumar, both of whom secured 28th rank in the EAMCET. Both the rankers opted for a seat in Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad. University Registrar T. Venugopala Rao said counselling would continue till July 29 and admissions for special category would be held on July 30. Camp officers had been deputed to all the five centres for a close coordination among the officers. Of the total 3,235 seats available for filling in medicine, 1,800 seats were available in 13 government medical colleges. The remaining are available in 16 private colleges. In BDS, 180 seats are available in government colleges and 923 in private colleges. Seats were being allotted to Muslim candidates under BC ‘E’ category, but they are not being admitted into colleges in view of the pending case in the Supreme Court. Following orders from the State Government, a special cell was opened to verify sports certificates. Dr. Rao said foolproof arrangements are made for counselling and that there is no room for complaints from any quarter over the arrangements.
