CHENNAI: S.R. Jangid, who took over as the first Commissioner of the newly formed ‘Chennai City Suburban Area’ Commissionerate at St. Thomas Mount here on Wednesday, warned of tough action against anti-socials, particularly rowdy elements. Stringent action would be taken to put down organised crime and usury. “I will ensure a transparent and honest administration. We have developed a mechanism that will ensure quick reaction to public grievances,” he told reporters after taking charge. Steps would be taken to ease traffic congestion. Public grievances would be attended to on all working days between 11 a.m. to noon. Till a three-digit number was obtained for the Police Control Room, public could call 044-23452447. Focussed policingDirector-General of Police K.P. Jain, who inaugurated the Mount Commissionerate, said policing in the three police districts — St. Thomas Mount, Ambattur and Madhavaram — would improve. Additional Director-General and City Commissioner R. Sekar, who launched the wireless communication by making the first call, said access to the Commissionerate was now easy for residents in areas such as Tambaram, Madhavaram, Avadi and Ambattur.
