Venting their ire: CPI(M) workers burning an effigy of the Prime Minister in Gulbarga on Wednesday. GULBARGA: The district unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday staged a demonstration and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to protest against what they called “devious” means by which the UPA Government won the trust vote in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. They wanted the Government not to go ahead with the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal. The CPI (M) workers, who came in a procession from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk to the Deputy Commissioners office, staged a “rasta roko” for sometime by forming a human chain before burning the effigy of the Prime Minister in front of the office. They alleged that the Government won the trust vote by “luring” MPs of the Opposition camp. Terming the victory of the UPA Government in the Lok Sabha as “immoral”, the CPI (M) workers said that the Prime Minister should resign owning moral responsibility for the “despicable” ways in which MPs were pressurised to support the Government. The Government does not have the moral right to go ahead with the deal without having a proper discussion on it in the House as it would change the course of the country in many ways, they added.
