Venting ire: Members of the BJP burning an effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Dharwad on Wednesday. HUBLI: There twin cities witnessed celebrations and protests on Wednesday over the United Progressive Alliance Government winning the trust vote on Tuesday. While it was celebration time for the Congress leaders and activists; for the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and members it was the reason for protest. Both in Hubli and Dharwad, the Congress members and leaders celebrated “vijayotsav.” In Hubli, the Congress members led by F.H. Jakkappannavar, Mahendra Singhi, Anwar Mudhol, Prasad Abbaiah, Rajeshekhar Mudhol and others distributed sweets, burst crackers at Durgad Bail circle and raised slogans in favour of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Addressing the gathering, general secretary of KPCC Minority Cell condemned what he termed as ugly scene created by the BJP MPs in the Parliament during the trust vote. In Dharwad, Robert Daddapuri, Vasant Arkachar, Danappa Kabera and others led the “vijayotsav.” They burst crackers and distributed sweets and raised slogans praising their leaders. In Dharwad, the BJP members and leaders staged a demonstration and burnt an effigy of Mr. Singh in protest against what they termed as “horse trading” by the Congress. BJP leaders Datta Dorle, Iresh Anchatageri and others raised slogans against the UPA Government and said that the Congress leaders had brought disgrace to Parliament. DemandIn Belgaum, Bharatiya Janata Party workers of the city and district units staged a demonstration at Rani Channamma Circle on Wednesday demanding that the President dismiss the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre by taking cognisance of the “shameful” happening on the floor of the Lok Sabha on what is being called as “bribe for vote” vis-À-vis the trust vote won by the Manmohan Singh Government. The workers shouted slogans against Congress and Samajwadi Party leaders for allegedly bribing MPs to win the trust vote.
