VISAKHAPATNAM: Tribal employees working in Andhra University and various government departments in the district expressed their solidarity with their brethren agitating for implementation of Regulation 1 of 70 at the Collectorate on Wednesday.

Under the aegis of AP Girijana Sangham and Kulavivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangham, the employees raised slogans against attack on tribals by non-tribals at Araku, foisting of cases against tribal activists and delay in demolition of illegal structures put up by non-tribals in violation of Regulation 1 of 70.

Led by K. Satyanarayana, Chinnam Naidu, K. Subba Rao, T. Rambabu and Taudanna of APGS and KVPS and M. Prasada Rao, president, AU ST Employees’ Welfare Federation, the employees later submitted a representation to District Collector Sanjay Kumar.

Back to normal

One e week after the Girijans pulled down buildings of non-locals alleging that they were constructed in violation of 1/70 Regulation, followed by dharnas, bandhs and arrest of Girijan leaders, the famous tourist centre Araku valley was peaceful on Wednesday.

Shops and other business establishments were opened after six days and the buses plied freely. There were more tourists in the township and other tourist places around it. The tension that gripped Araku Valley since July 17 was absent on Wednesday, according to reports reaching here. Revenue authorities erected boards in the sites where illegal buildings were demolished either by them or the Girijans, stating that they were Government property and action would be taken against the encroachers.
