Motor workers’ strike on July 29

Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: The State Coordination Committee of Motor Workers will strike work on July 29 to highlight their demands.

The State-wide protest is to demand the revising autorickshaw fare, besides fixing of appropriate autorickshaw and taxi fare on a scientific basis in corporation, municipality, panchayat and hilly areas, P.V. Krishnan, State convener of the coordination committee said in a release here.

The association also sought an increase in welfare fund benefits as recommended by the Welfare Fund Board. Haphazard levying of auto and taxi fare, without any regulation, in the backdrop of hike in petrol price would lead to confusion, a meeting held to discuss the demands of workers noted.

The committee had submitted a memorandum of 18 demands to the Transport Minister on July 9, and the token protest was part of the measures to highlight the needs of motor workers, it was added. K. Gangadharan (BMS) presided.
