NEW DELHI: Several residents’ welfare associations of Indraprastha Extension in the Capital on Tuesday urged the Delhi Government to make necessary amendments to the Delhi Co-operative Societies Act recognising the role of power of attorney holders in managing the societies’ day-to-day affairs. ‘No right to vote’“In most co-operative group housing societies across the Capital a large majority of residents are power of attorney holders, but due to flawed DCS Act provisions they have no right to vote or manage the society’s affairs. There are about 15 lakh power of attorney holders living in co-operative societies concentrated mainly in Patparganj, Rohini, Vasundhra and Dwarka,” said Federation of I P Extension RWAs secretary G.S. Aggarwal. “The co-operative housing society’s role comes to an end after the allotment of flat/plot/house as a common practice. Then the RWA with a larger mandate, representing all residents of the society, steps in to manage its affairs,” he added. ‘Massive corruption’Alleging that the age-old DCS Act had led to massive “corruption” in management of societies, O.P. Arora of Aggarsen Society said: “The outdated provisions of the Act are heavily inclined in favour of original members and have led to a situation where the same members continue to run the show in society management.” Mr. Arora said the holders of power of attorney are harassed by the “corrupt” managements and treated as second-rate residents if they refuse to give in to their demands.
