50th show of ‘Swadeshi Aiyar’ staged

Chennai: Alandur Fine Arts and United Amateur Artistes on Sunday presented the 50th show of ‘Swadeshi Aiyar’, a play directed by Y. Gee. Mahendra. The play was staged for an audience of students, their parents and the staff of Mrs.Y.G.P School.
After the screening, veteran actor Manorama said she was transported back to the days when she acted in several plays. “There were over 300 sabhas then staging a play every day.”
N.Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu, commended Mr. Mahendra’s commitment to high-calibre comedy with values.
Contemporary flavour
The comedy was supported by strong narrative combined with a contemporary flavour, he said.
Poet Pa. Vijay said the play should be made into a movie. Mr.Mahendra said that of the 50 shows of ‘Swadeshi Aiyar’, 20 were sponsored by Alandur Fine Arts.
The plot
The play, written by Chithralaya Sriram, is about a family that takes a trip on a time machine back to the year 1945 to learn the importance of values.
Mrs. Y.G. Parthasarathy, dean and director of PSBB Group of Schools, was also present on the occasion.
