City receives 8 cm of rain in two hours

Arterial roads flooded, traffic thrown out of gear


Rainwater enters houses in low-lying areas

Skies may be partly cloudy on Monday


BANGALORE: The skies opened up in Bangalore on Sunday night and it rained for more than two hours throwing the holiday traffic out of gear and inundating almost all the arterial roads. The city received almost 8 cm rain till 11 p.m.

The rain, which began at around 8.30 p.m., continued till 11 p.m., even as it continued to drizzle till midnight. Traffic came to a grinding halt in and around Majestic area, where vehicles remained stranded for over two hours. Cubbon Road, Lalbagh Road, Seshadri Road, West of Chord Road, Mysore Road, K.G. Road, Narasimha Raja Road, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Veedhi, Krishna Rajendra Road, Hosur Road, Bellary Road and other roads were flooded . There were reports of cars and motorcycles getting submerged in water near Jeevanahalli bridge, Vijinapura, West of Chord Road (near ISKCON temple), near Kino Theatre and Okalipuram. Water entered houses in Bapujinagar, Vijinapura, Ejipura and other areas. A pool of slush was formed at the BDA junction on Bellary Road where the magic box overpass was recently built. Rainwater from Palace Road Cross got collected near the overpass severely curtailing traffic movement. Later, a road median was removed to allow free flow of water to the other side of the road. Incidents of tree fall were reported from J.P. Nagar 24th Main, near Chalukya Hotel and Ambedkar Medical College.

The meteorological department has said skies will be partly cloudy on Monday with the likelihood of rain or thundershowers during the day.
