CHENNAI: Urologist A. Rajasekharan and six other physicians were felicitated by Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss at a State-level medicos’ conference organised by Social Improvement Society here on Sunday. The award consisted of trophy, medal and certificate. As many as seven papers were presented on privatisation of medical education and its future, hi-tech corporate hospitals, setting up of research labs, medical services in Northern Tamil Nadu, actively engaging in medical set-up and addressing problems of medical students. Dr. Chandrasekharan dealt at length on the subject of setting up corporate hospitals and research labs. He said the private sector had an edge over others in providing medical services due to cleanliness, efficient service and quick response time. Patients favoured corporate hospitals as it provided good service, while those practising in private sector provided service at the doorsteps of the patients. Dr. Sivakumar spoke on the status of medical services in northern Tamil Nadu and said it had to be improved further to keep pace with that of private sector. Most of the speakers recalled the medical services rendered by Dr. Ramadoss to the poorer section of the society. Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss was also complimented.
