CHENNAI: A total of 2,500 sets of college textbooks were distributed to students at a book distribution programme conducted by the Rajasthan Youth Association (RYA) on Sunday.

Madras University Vice-Chancellor S. Ramachandran, who distributed the textbooks, said education is the tool to remove poverty. But, lack of funds for paying fees and purchasing textbooks was the main cause for a large number of students dropping out from schools.

The initiative of the RYA Book Bank was laudable as it benefited several economically backward students, he said. RYA secretary Praveen Tatia and president Lalith Kumar O. Chajjer spoke.
