CHENNAI: Central Crime Branch police on Saturday arrested two men on charges of possessing and using fake international credit cards . Police identified them as S. Navaneethan (28) and S. Raj Kumar (24), both Sri Lankan Tamils and living in Porur for the past 10 years. According to police, Navaneethan would forward to Raj Kumar details of credit cards sent by a friend based in England. Raj Kumar would then prepare fake credit cards. The duo used the fake credit cards many times in a bar of a star hotel in Nungambakkam, police said. Based on information that fake credit cards were being used in the city, certain banks had stepped up vigilance. On Saturday, when the two men were buying products from an electronics goods shop in Kodambakkam an officer of AXIS Bank, who was in the shop, informed the Central Crime Branch police. Police Commissioner R. Sekar ordered the arrest of the two men and an interrogation was conducted. The arrested men admitted that that they had used fake credit cards and spent over Rs.5 lakh. Police recovered a television, fridge, motorcycle, two mobile phones, three fake credit cards and a pen drive containing information stolen from thousands of credit cards. Crime Branch police have urged traders to compare details on the credit card with the details on the charge slip. In the above case, police found that the number details in the credit cards did not match those on the charge slip.
