Aswin makes a big splash

CHENNAI: Aswin Manivannan of Bhavans Rajaji School bagged six gold medals in the second K.C. George memorial swimming meet for schools and collages which concluded on Saturday.

Sishya School and Lady Andal won the team championship for schools in the boys’ and girls’ sections respectively. In the Colleges’ division, A.M. Jain won the team championship in the boys’ section and MIT won it in the girls’ section.

Yugesh Kumar (Hindu HSS) and Ayshwarya (Jessie Moses) were awarded the V.P. Sathyan Memorial Trophy for being the ‘Promising Swimmer’ in the boys’ and girls’ sections respectively.

Muthukumaraswamy, Vice-Chairman and CEO, Tamil Nadu Maritime Board, was the Chief Guest. Rajasekhar, Sr. Vice-President, Ramco Systems and Sebastian Xavier, Olympian and Arjuna Awardee were the guests of honour.

Varun hits century

M. Varun Kumar’s unbeaten century set up a 212-run win for St. Patrick’s in the TNCA-Boost under-16 city schools tournament for the C. Ramaswamy Trophy.

The scores: Govt. HSS ‘A’ 213 for six in 30 overs (K.G. Sanjeevi 77, R. Vignesh Shankar four for 50) bt Revoor Padbhanabha CMHSS 153 for nine in 30 overs (B. Hari Chetri 47, M. Ajit Kumar four for 29).

Santhome ‘B’ 194 for eight in 30 overs (N. Abilash 58, S. Sabarish 27 n.o., B. Sairupesh 25, P.V. Nivesh four for 25) bt Devi Academy 146 in 25.2 overs (Sabari 33, V.R. Vasanthkumar 32, S. Sabarish three for 22, P. Karthik three for 15).

St. Patrick’s 265 for two in 30 overs (M. Varun Kumar 109 n.o., U. Sasi Dev 75 n.o., P. Arun 46) bt Sir M. Venkata Subba Rao 53 in 16.2 overs (J. Vignesh four for 26, Pavan three for 7).

Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya 141 for eight in 30 overs (L. Karthik 35) lost to Agarwal Vidyalaya 142 for seven in 29.2 overs (Deepesh Sharma 42, Sourabh Agarwal 30, Abhishek V. Jain 25 n.o.).

St. Bede’s ‘A’ 265 for eight in 30 overs (R. Ananth 91, Leonard Bruno 47, B. Inderajith 38, N. Guna three for 46) bt St. Mary’s 55 in 15.5 overs.

State-ranking tennis

The Krishnan Tennis Centre is organising the India Pistons junior tennis tournament, a state ranking event for under-14 boys and girls, from August 4 to 9 at its courts in Kottivakkam. Entries close on July 28. For further details call 9444784704.

Snooker tournament

The Madras United Club will conduct the 13th Non-Medallist Billiards and Snooker tournament and the ninth Snooker Doubles tournament from July 21.

Website launched

The Tamil Nadu Badminton Association launched its website ( www.tnba.in) at the Towers Club, here on Friday.

Talent series tennis

The UC MAS-Singaram Pillai all-India tennis tournament (Talent series) for under-14 and 16 boys and girls will be held from July 28 to August 2.
