Knowing German helps in learning its culture and heritage Part-time jobs are not easily available in Germany HYDERABAD: Knowing German can go a long way for survival in Germany, particularly in securing part-time employment. If one intends to settle there, knowledge about the language is almost mandatory as most Germans are not really conversant in English. Speaking at an interactive session organised at Goethe Zentrum, three youngsters who passed out from different German Universities in 2005 shared their experiences with city-based aspirants interested in pursuing higher education in the country. Knowing German helps in learning the country’s heritage and culture. Besides, it aids in acquainting with the natives, their thought processes, body language, work culture and habits, which is helpful if one is planning to settle in Germany. Part-time jobs are not easily available and require some effort, they informed. One participant, Yogesh narrated how he had to walk for three days to find a part-time job and the first question he was asked was if he knew German. “Thankfully, I knew how to speak German, so I could land up in good part-time jobs during my stay there,” he told the gathering.
