BANGALORE: Tension prevailed for sometime at Ursu Colony in Tilak Nagar police limits on Friday evening after some of the devotees of Karimariyamman temple staged a protest in front of the temple seeking removal of the temple priest. The protesters alleged that Ramesh Bhat, the priest at the Karimariyamman temple was not performing his duties properly and that he was also not coming to temple on time. The devotees staged the protest around 7 p.m. on Friday evening seeking his removal. While it is learnt that Ramesh Bhat was manhandled by the protesting devotees, the police said that the devotees only staged a protest and did not manhandle him. It is learnt that while a section of the devotees wanted to remove Ramesh Bhat, the others wanted that he remain, leading to tension. It is learnt that Ramesh Bhat had cheated several people while he was working as a priest at a temple in Siddapura police limits, and a case had been registered against him. He was allegedly working at a temple under a false name. The Tilak Nagar police arrived at the spot and pacified the protesters. The police said that no case had been registered as no one had come forward to give a complaint. Baby foundA six-month-old baby was found abandoned near K.R. Market in Kalasipalyam police limits on Friday. The police said that the boy was found crying, and passers-by alerted them. The child was rescued by the staff of Vanitha Sahaya Vani and later shifted to Shishu Mandira. Ivory seizedThe Upparpet police on Saturday arrested two persons for allegedly possessing 9.5 kg of ivory and a “Gaja Muttu”, part of the tusk. The police arrested Siddaraju and Ravi of Kanakapura. The two were caught near the Old Bangalore Prison when they were allegedly selling the articles. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) B. Shivakumar said the accused revealed that they had procured the tusk and “Gaja Muttu” from Tamil Nadu. A person by name Thimme Gowda is said to have brought the material for the accused. ArrestedThe Kengeri police have arrested eight persons allegedly involved in the murder of Congress gram panchayat member Muniraju on July 6. Muniraju was hacked to death while he was returning home along with his children and a friend. BurglaryHouse of Ravi, a marketing executive, was burgled in J.P. Nagar and articles worth Rs. 10 lakh were taken away on Friday. Cash and gold jewellery, in all about Rs. 2 lakh, were taken away from the house of civil contractor Veerendra Swamy in Padmanabhanagar 29th Main on Friday. The Banashankari police have registered a case.
