Ketamine seized at airport
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Officials of the Customs and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized about 50 kg of ketamine hydrochloride at the Chennai airport from the baggage of two passengers who were on their way to Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
Gani Abdul Hameed (36) of Chennai was on his way to board the flight. A checked-in baggage of the passenger was found with a tampered seal, which raised doubts. When they checked the baggage, it was found to contain 23.7 kg of the drug, packed in toner packets, meant for photocopying machines.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the passenger agreed to carry the drug for some monetary consideration. The seized drug was valued at Rs.2.37 crore in the international market, they said.
