3-year RI awarded in fake note case

CHENNAI: Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore, R. Sadaiyandi, on Friday sentenced one person to three years’ rigorous imprisonment in a counterfeit currency case.
According to the prosecution, a team of the Crime Branch CID police arrested R. Velusamy (58) of Choolaimedu on August 11, 2006 for being in possession of counterfeit currency notes of Rs.50 denomination. Investigation revealed that the fake notes were given to Velusamy by K. Selvakumar alias Selvam (47) of Avadi.
While acquitting Selvam, the judge convicted Velusamy and also imposed a fine of Rs. 2,000.
