Hassle-free: The police are on the job of making traffic signals motorist-friendy. –

The City Police have sought the services of a Mumbai-based firm, CMS, to streamline the functioning of 37 traffic signals in the city. The City Police Commissioner, K.C. Mahali, told The Hindu that a team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic), K. Thondiraj, is identifying the traffic signals that are not functioning properly.

By next week the process would be completed and the work to streamline them would begin. Almost all the signals would be set right within a fortnight, Mr.Mahali said.

The timings allotted for each signal would be reviewed considering the complaints from motorists.

Mr. Mahali said that field level officers have been asked to identify places where bottlenecks occurred frequently and the work to remove them was progressing under the supervision of Mr.Thondiraj. The people could write to the City Police if they came across any complaints of similar nature, Mr. Mahali added.

The police were waiting for the completion of works on Avanashi Road to synchronise traffic signals at the Uppilipalayam Junction, the LIC Junction, Anna Statue and the Lakshmi Mills Junction.

The police were planning to bring in a Golden Hour directory containing the names of the hospitals, ambulance services, police control rooms, traffic investigation wing and police officers to ensure instant and easier access to medical services and police in the event of an accident.

The same is being done as part of the ongoing effort of the City Police to enlist public support and network emergency medical services to ensure medical aid for an accident victim during the Golden Hour.
