Sidhant stuns top seed

NEW DELHI: Third seed Sidhant Mahapatra upstaged top-seeded Iranian Khalil Mousavi Seyed to emerge as the sole leader with a perfect score after three rounds of the boys’ under-10 section in the Asian youth chess championship in Teheran on Thursday.

Y. Grahesh (boys’ under-8), Shiven Khosla, Sayantan Das (boys’ under-12), Ankit Rajpara (boys’ under-14), Ivana Furtado, M. Mahalakshmi (girls’ under-10), Sonakshi Rathore (girls’ under-12), Padmini Rout, J. Mohana Priya, N. Anusha (girls’ under-14) and Pon N. Krithika (girls’ under-16) were the other Indians leaders.

The results (third round, involving Indians): Boys: U-8: Arya Omidi (Iri, 2) lost to Y. Grahesh (3); Alireza Olamaei (Iri, 1) lost to Adarsh Srivastava (2). U-10: Khalil Mousavi Seyed (Iri, 2) lost to Sidhant Mahapatra (3); Nyuyen Ngoc Minh Tri (Vie, 2.5) drew with Diptayan Ghosh (2.5); W.C.I. Paththini (Sri, 1.5) lost to C.H. Mohineesh (2). U-12: Shiven Khosla (3) bt Girish Koushik (2); Amir Kowsarinia (Iri, 2) lost to Sayantan Das (3); Jung Ho Jin (Kor, 1) lost to Shardul Gagare (2); Nimantha Saranapala (Sri, 1) lost to Praveen Kumar (2). U-14: Vidit Gujarati (2.5) drew with Prasanna Rao (2.5); Ankit Rajpara (3) bt Pranav Shetty (1.5); Mukhit Ismailov (Kaz, 1.5) drew with Fenil Shah (1.5).
