Legislature may have its own TV channel
Special Correspondent
Bangalore: Legislative Assembly Speaker Jagadish Shettar on Friday said in the House that he was contemplating starting a television channel on the lines of Lok Sabha channel, exclusively for telecasting the proceedings in the two Houses of the Legislature.
This was in response to the demand by the Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, who initiated a debate on the budget for the year 2008-09, that the speeches of the Opposition leaders should also be covered live by television channels. Mr. Kharge and H.D. Revanna (Janata Dal-Secular) demanded that the facility be introduced in this session itself.
Mr. Shettar, who agreed with them, said that he was discussing the issue with the officers concerned and would take a decision on starting a channel for covering the proceedings of the legislature, at the earliest.
