Tamil Nadu to release water for Palakkad
Special Correspondent
Chennai: Tamil Nadu has decided to release 300 million cubic feet (mcft) of water from the Manacadavu weir to Kerala for irrigation in Palakkad.
This is in response to Kerala’s request for the release of 500 mcft, according to an official in the Water Resources Department here.
Though 130 mcft is to be released during the second half of July under the Parambikulam-Aliyar project agreement, Tamil Nadu has agreed to give more in view of poor rainfall in the neighbouring State during the current monsoon. However, the total release of 7.25 thousand million cubic feet in a year from Manacadavu remains unchanged, the official says.
