HYDERABAD: Mobile aficionados will soon have the pleasure of using Linux based mobile operating system on their smart phones. The operating system is being developed by California based Linux mobile applications developer, Azingo and will be delivered by LiMO Foundation, a global consortium of mobile companies. The Linux centric phones will be out by the second half of next year, enabling operators and mobile phone companies to customise handsets, giving them their own unique identity. ’ “This open ended software (free to use) will allow mobile phone operators to give their customers a user friendly phone with a lot of flexible options,” said CEO of Azingo, Mahesh Veerina, in an interaction with the media on Thursday. “Operators will be able to give their phones a different personality and the user can customise applications and download widgets on to the phone. Handsets will also have development tools, applications like entertainment, internet and mobile productivity,” informed Gabi Schindler, Chief Marketing Officer, Azingo. LiMO foundation is an open mobile industry platform for phone manufacturers, operators, and independent software vendors. Moreover, about 500 million Linux based mobiles will be launched next year by LiMO Foundation and hopefully, make its debut by early next year. “Initially, we started with six companies and now experts from 55 companies are with us.
