149 cases of traffic violation filed

TIRUCHI: About 149 cases were registered during intensive checks conducted by Transport Department officials in Tiruchi and Manapparai areas in the past few days.

As many as 1,306 vehicles were checked during the drive.

Of this, 21 cases were booked against goods vehicles on the charge of overloading, while 18 cases were filed against drivers without licences.

About Rs.1.75 lakh were realised from omni-buses which were plying without paying tax.

Auto permits

The permits of 15 autorickshaws have been recommended for cancellation as they were found to be carrying more school children than permitted.

The licences of 18 drivers, who were booked on the charges of drunken driving or reckless driving leading to fatal accidents, have also been recommended for cancellation, Collector T.Soundiah said in a press release.
