Proposed half-day power cut for industries rejected
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The government has turned down the proposal of the AP Transco and distribution companies to extend the power cut to industries by half-a-day.
Faced with acute power shortage, the AP Transco and the four distribution companies have made this proposal to the government. They argued that a one-hour cut on industries could ensure supply for six hours to domestic/commercial sectors for lighting purpose.
The government, however, turned it down as industries were already subjected to heavy cut.
Meanwhile, the moderate rains in the State offered slight relief to the Transco. Though an installed capacity of 1,319 MW is kept on outage due to various problems, including technical snags, the utility is able to meet a truncated demand of 176 million units in the wake of the cuts.
The power drawn by the Transco from the central generation stations reached a high of 35.61 mu on Thursday, nearly a fifth of the total supply, even as the output from the hydel stations remained at a lowly 15 mu.
