HYDERABAD: Mobile aficionados will soon have the pleasure of using Linux-based mobile operating system on their smart phones.
The operating system is being developed by California-based Linux mobile applications developer, Azingo and will be delivered by LiMO Foundation, a global consortium of mobile companies.
The Linux centric phones will be out by the second half of next year, enabling operators and mobile phone companies to customise handsets with a unique identity.
“This open-ended software (free to use) will allow mobile phone operators to give their customers a user friendly phone with a lot of flexible options,” said CEO of Azingo, Mahesh Veerina, in an interaction with the media on Thursday. “About 500 Linux-based mobile phones will be launched globally next year. These phones will be on par with the existing smart phones,” said Executive Director of LiMO foundation, Morgan Gillis
