Traffic at standstill near Ashok pillar, as hundreds of people thronged the TNHB complex to submit applications on Wednesday.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) has extended the deadline, till 3 p.m. on Friday, for registering applications for inclusion in the draw of lots towards allotment of plots in its housing scheme on Mudichur Road, Tambaram.

The decision followed the unprecedented rush for the registration on Wednesday, which was earlier stipulated as the last date.

“Out of the 51,196 applications sold, 34,600 have already been registered,” an official of TNHB said.

“The sale of application, which was on from July 2, has been stopped. However, the TNHB has changed the deadline for registration of already sold applications to 3 p.m. July 18, keeping in mind the convenience of the public,” he added.

Fully developed plots

“We expect that 10,000 more applications will be registered. The enthusiastic response of the public has been owing to the low cost of the plots and faith of people in the housing board schemes. These plots are fully developed by the housing board with CMDA approval,” the official added.

A total of 45 plots are being offered under the scheme. It includes 23 middle income group plots of 1,200 sq.ft priced at Rs.3,01,500 each and 22 low income group plots at Rs.2,21,100 each.

The draw of lots for the allotment will be held at Peraringar Anna Thirumana Mandapam, Ashok Nagar, on July 30.

More plots next year

The TNHB is also planning allotment of more plots in various schemes in and around the city after February next year, the official said. They would include schemes in Sriperumbudur and Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mamallapuram Road).
