New office building at primary school inaugurated
Staff Reporter
Chennai: Bala Mandir Kamaraj Trust on Tuesday dedicated a new office building on its primary school campus to the memory of former trustee T.T. Vasu.
The trust also celebrated ‘Kamaraj Day’ with ‘villupaatu’ and speeches by students on the life of the former Chief Minister, who was also T.T. Vasu’s mentor and guide.
Frau Konsulin Khulman, Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Chennai, inaugurated the celebrations. She said that support from Germany may be offered for Bala Mandir’s future programmes.
The office building was opened by S. Ramakrishnan, former director of Abbot Laboratories and dedicated to the memory of T.T. Vasu by his son Arun Vasu.
Maya Gaitonde, honorary general secretary of the trust, paid tributes to the patrons of the trust. The trust has received support from various donors including DWH Germany, Yoga Vereinigung Rajagopalan, Jan Uwe Burmeister, Sarathy Foundation of the U.S. and several individuals in Germany. One of the youngest donors is German student Lena Dent, who saves her pocket money to arrange a party for the children of Bala Mandir every year.
The children were given prizes, clothes, toys and a special lunch.
This is the 60th year of Bala Mandir’s service to the cause of educating children from socially and economically weak families.
