Cabinet panel meeting tomorrow

Bangalore: The Cabinet subcommittee headed by Energy Minister K.S. Eshwarappa will have its first meeting on Friday to take stock of the power situation in the State.

The committee was constituted recently by the State Cabinet to periodically review the power situation in the State and take appropriate decisions.

Meanwhile, the power quota for all five Escoms is learnt to have been reduced by about 20 per cent in the wake of power shortage.

For Bangalore, the reduction is said to be 10 per cent.

However, there was no official confirmation in this regard.

K. Jairaj, Principal Secretary of Energy Department and chairman of Escoms, met with senior officials of Bescom on Wednesday and directed them to handle the available power efficiently. “Right now, we are facing close to 25 per cent shortage.

The subcommittee meet on Friday will decide on the next course of action,” he said.
