Begin BG work, says Sivakasi MP

SIVAKASI: The Sivakasi MP, A. Ravichandran, has threatened to mobilise people to agitate, if the railway caused any further delay in implementing the gauge conversion work between Virudhunagar and Manamadurai.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the MP said that the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary, Vaiko, had raised the gauge conversion of 67 km. stretch in Parliament.

Following him, the MP too pressed for early allocation of funds during every railway budget discussion in the Lok Sabha.

The project was sanctioned in 2007-08 and funds were allotted in 2008-09 budget.

Though it was announced that the work would be completed in 18 months and the Virudhunagar and Manamadurai stations upgraded, there was no indication of commencing the work even after lapse of three months.

The MP had also made a representation to the Union Minister of State for Railways, R. Velu, and the Southern Railway, General Manager, on the issue recently.
