CPI(M) wants fishermen protected

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A delegation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) met Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Tuesday and demanded adequate protection to Tamil nadu fishermen in the wake of two fishermen being gunned down allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy.

The delegation, led by State secretary N. Varadarajan, urged the Chief Minister to initiate steps to prevent such incidents and put in place adequate safeguards for the fishermen.

Power supply

The party’s demands included steps for uninterrupted power supply and ending the drinking water crisis in the Kovilpatti municipality. The delegation also resented the alleged move by a couple of leading industrial managements to clamp down on trade union liberties and sought the Chief Minister’s intervention.
