BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to file a detailed report on Girinagar Layout. It directed the BBMP and other authorities not to demolish the compound walls constructed by several allottees in the layout. The court also asked the allottees not to construct any structure on the land unless they obtained permission from either the BBMP or Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh passed the order when 72 petitioners, including Sudha Acharya, challenged a Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike action on July 5, 2008 demolishing compound walls built around sites granted to them by a private house building society. The allottees urged the court to stay the demolition saying that they had submitted applications to the BDA to regularise the allotment of sites. They said they were constructing the walls to prevent encroachment. They also said that the BDA had decided to allot the sites to them. The BBMP said the sites could only be allotted by the BDA. It said it had fixed Rs. 2,100 per square metre as levy for 80 acres of land. It said the petitioners are bound to pay the amount. Mr. Ramesh ordered the State to file a report on how much money is due to it from the allottees and adjourned the case.
