Collectors ensure judicious use
of water
No shortage of fertilizers, says Thanjavur Collector

CHENNAI: The kuruvai crop is being raised smoothly in the Cauvery delta through judicious use of water, Collectors of the districts covered by the delta informed Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Tuesday.

When asked by the Chief Minister on the status of short-term Kuruvai paddy crop at the inauguration of the Thanjavur digital control room of Arasu Cable TV Corporation through video conferencing, Thanjavur Collector C. Vijayaraj Kumar said out of the 40,000 hectares, 21,750 hectares had been covered. “The turn system has been going on for the last 15 days. There is no shortage of urea and di-ammonia phosphate and fertilizers are being sold through co-operative societies,” he said.

Tiruchi Collector T. Soundiah said 6,000 hectares had been covered and the situation was being monitored closely.

Thiruvarur Collector M. Chandrasekaran said 18,000 out of 36,000 hectares planned for kuruvai crop had been covered.

Nagapattinam Collector M. Jayaraman said they were in touch with farmer’s representatives on a weekly basis to get their feedback and give suggestions on availability of fertilizers and farm credit, among other issues.
