Online Tamil comic series from August 15

CHENNAI: “People seem to have an aversion to read Tamil. So, a comic seemed to be a good idea to generate interest in reading Tamil,” said B. Siva Kumar, the man behind Ka-Suvadi. It will be the first online Tamil comic periodical, he said.

In April 2008, a trial version was started and based on the response, the Ka-Suvadi team planned to launch a periodical. The online series is set to start on August 15.

Mr. Siva Kumar is a film maker with many international awards to his credit. He won the National Award for Best Environmental Film in 2002 for his short film ‘Urumattram’. Most of his movies have themes centred on children. Hence, he feels that it was a natural transition for him to conceptualise a comic series for children.

Everything, from story ideas to panels will be original material. “It will have a ‘Tamil view’. I am not sure how else to put it,” said Mr. Siva Kumar.
