Aswin clinches four titles

Salem: C. Aswin took home four titles in the Salem district junior and senior badminton championship, organised by the Salem District Badminton Association, at the Salem Fairlands Recreation Club Indoor Courts, here on Sunday.

At Coimbatore, M. Ramachandran picked five for 14 in Surybala Cricketers 10-wicket win over ABT Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-CDCA second division cricket league at the TNAU grounds here on Sunday.

Raj, Alfonse shine

Raj’s half-century and Alfonse’s five for 16 helped DCW Cricket Club (Sahupuram) defeat Adithanar College (Tiruchendur) by 51 runs in the Kayal Trophy District-level Twenty-20 cricket tournament at Kayalpatnam on Sunday.

The scores: DCW CC, Sahupuram 167 for three in 20 overs (White Field 39, Raj 56, Pachiaraj 34) bt Aditanar College, Tiruchendur 116 in 17 overs (Alfonse five for 16); Pope’s College, Tuticorin 62 in 15 overs (Dinesh four for 17) lost to Umari CC, Umarikadu 63 for three in nine overs (Suman 27); Power CC, Tuticorin 94 for eight in 20 overs (Muthuraj 33) bt King’s Eleven, Kovilpatti 79 in 16 overs.

Football tournament

Eight teams — defending champion Indian Bank, last year’s runner-up SAI, ICF, SBI, Nethaji, TSP, TNEB (all from Chennai) and Dindigul District Football Association — will be participating in the TNEB Trophy invitation football tournament, which will get underway at the SDAT stadium, Dindigul, on Wednesday.

Cricket tournament

The inter-district matches involving schools from Madurai, Theni, Sivagangai, Dindigul, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar for the Boost Cup cricket tournament will commence in the fourth week of July.
